10 dogs remain in first part of 40-dog euthanasia list, time running out

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Ten out of the 21 dogs scheduled to be euthanized on Saturday as part of the 40-dog euthanasia list have yet to be rehomed, according to Concho Valley PAWS.

The 40-dog list was announced by the City of San Angelo on Tuesday, May 28, via social media. The list was divided into two parts, with each part representing a different date that a portion of the dogs were scheduled for euthanasia. These dates, along with their respective times and number of dogs, are as follows:

  • Saturday, June 1, at 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 8, at 3 p.m.

The list was issued after the City reported that the San Angelo Animal Shelter had exceeded its 180-dog legal maximum capacity by 19 dogs “due to exigent circumstances.” To compensate for the overcrowding, the shelter scheduled 40 dogs to be euthanized.

CVPAWS indicated through a Facebook post sent out during the morning hours of May 31 that 11 dogs under the June 1 deadline have been rehomed. Ten dogs still remain, however, meaning that they have until Saturday to be adopted, fostered or transferred to another shelter.

“Their time is running out!” CVPAWS said. “They do not deserve this fate.”

The City has asked anyone willing to foster, adopt or transfer the dogs to contact info@cvpaws.org. People may also visit 24petconnect.com to view a list of available shelter pets.

CVPAWS is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. CVPAWS has waived all adoption fees for at-risk dogs, including costs incurred by vaccinations, microchips and spays or neuters.

Below is a list of the remaining dogs under the June 1 deadline:
