SUSSEX, Wis. (WISN) – A Wisconsin family is living a nightmare after their 8-year-old dog was killed and their babysitter accused of the crime.
The family of Batman, an 8-year-old Chihuahua, says they had their longtime babysitter over Thursday. When they got home, they couldn’t find the dog and reported him missing on Facebook.
The next day, the family says they found Batman’s body, hidden in a pile of blankets and stuffed animals.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Saturday the dog was found with a “possible stab wound and a plastic bag on its head.”
“That’s kind of scary, to think that there’s somebody who would be willing to do that. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to kill a small dog,” said Scott Calmes, who lives nearby.
Deputies interviewed the family’s babysitter about the incident and arrested the 18-year-old for cruelty to animals. Formal charges have not been filed yet.
The incident has neighbors thinking about their own pets.
“You treat it like a child, really, when you get right down to it, so yeah, it’s unbelievable,” neighbor Mitchell Surprise said.
The family says they had raised Batman since he was a puppy.
