Three people have now been arrested for a break-and-enter and assault at a home in Hamilton’s west end that included allegations of a stolen pooch.

Hamilton Police were called on June 16 to 22 Parkside Dr. in the Westdale neighbourhood for an incident that is being investigated by Provincial Animal Welfare Services, the agency responsible for investigating animal cruelty in Ontario.

Cops alleged that, on June 19 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., individuals “broke into 22 Parkside Dr. and stole the occupant’s dog — a medium sized black dog named Buster. The entry itself was captured on video by the perpetrators and then widely shared on social media.”

Shortly after 7 p.m., cops were called to Bond St. N. and Norwood Rd. area for a street disturbance.

“The occupants of 22 Parkside Dr. had attempted to return home and were prevented from doing so when confronted by a group of people, one of whom threw a water bottle at the female’s face,” police said in a news release. “This incident was also captured on video and shared on social media.”

On June 29, a 45-year-old Hamilton woman turned herself in to Hamilton Police for an assault captured on video. On July 4, the male and female sought in connection to the break-and-enter were arrested.

The uproar started when a Hamilton family’s beloved dog allegedly died while in the care of pet sitter Jessica Kippen, who owns Kippen Cares. It was her home that was broken into and she was allegedly assaulted.

Jenuen Monroe told the Toronto Sun she left her two dogs with Kippen — but returned home only with one.

Cartelo, an American pocket bully puppy, left the dog daycare in a body bag, as seen in video taken outside of the home and posted on a local Facebook page.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-3818, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit crimestoppershamilton.com.
