WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Hutchinson Fire Department said three dogs died in a small house fire Thursday evening. The fire occurred in the 7000 block of North Lorraine around 7:47 p.m.
While en route, it was reported that no people were in the house, but there were several dogs inside.
Crews arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from the front door and fire coming from the rear of the home. Rural water supply operations were used due to the fire being in an area without hydrants.
Crews worked through the front door to put the fire out and started searching for people and pets inside. Once the fire was knocked down, three dogs were removed. Special lifesaving equipment for small animals was used on the dog, but all three died. No people were hurt.
The home experienced severe smoke and fire damage throughout. One person who lived in the home received assistance from the American Red Cross.
