Nearly 40 pets found homes as the Friends of Estancia Valley Animals hosted Woofstock, a multiagency pet adoption event, Sept. 21 at Edgewood’s Venus Park.
The nonprofit has promoted responsible pet ownership through education, low-cost spay and neuter events, and adoption fairs in the Edgewood area for over a decade.
Woofstock, Edgewood Animal Control’s annual Pet Expo and Adoption Festival, was first established in 2011 as a fundraiser. It has evolved into a fun-filled day for the entire community.
Numerous animal shelters and rescues participated this year, bringing with them a variety of adoptable animals, as well as information about their organizations. 39 pets were adopted at this year’s event.
According to the Friends of Estancia Valley Animals, more than 300 dogs and cats have been adopted at past Woofstock events. This year’s Woofstock had vendors, raffles, food trucks and live music by Americana/folk/cover band Brightsmith and others. The event included face painting for humans and an opportunity for dogs to create their own paintings.
“Another successful ‘Woofstock” is in the books. So many shelter pets from around the state found new homes, residents brought their furry friends to the shot clinic, dog experts shared demonstrations, and puppy ‘Picasos’ painted masterpieces to take home,” the Town of Edgewood posted on social media. “Music, local food trucks and vendors kept the crowd energized, and it was a beautiful day.”
