Five people were displaced and a dog had to be resuscitated in a fire on the South Side on Friday night, authorities reported.
Fire crews were sent to the house in the 3200 block of Knollwood Way at 6:03 p.m., arrived at 6:11 p.m., and had the fire under control at 6:36 p.m., Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said in a statement.
Firefighters found the attached garage fully involved with heavy flames when they arrived, with the family telling them all people made it out safely, but a dog was still inside.
Firefighters found the dog, which was unresponsive, on the first floor, brought it outside, and resuscitated it, using oxygen administered through a pet oxygen mask. The family took the dog to an emergency vet clinic, where it was reported to be stable and receiving additional care.
Flames did extend into the home, causing fire and smoke damage. Firefighters retrieved Christmas gifts and other belongings for the family, and the American Red Cross responded to provide additional assistance.
