A dog is looking for his forever home after tragedy.

The canine, named Scooter, was found with gunshot wounds while wandering a rural road alone in Nashville on Christmas Day in 2024, according to Wags and Walks.

At the time, when Scooter was only 6 months old, the nonprofit dog rescue said the pup was “dragging his back legs behind him,” and it appeared he “had horrific wounds on his legs from dragging his legs on the ground.”

“It was obvious that Scooter had experienced the worst of humans,” Wags and Walks added.

A Good Samaritan initially discovered Scooter and brought him to the nearby Maury County Animal Shelter to receive aid.

There, the shelter determined that the dog, “given the severity,” needed to receive assistance from a shelter that could care for his medical needs — and Wags and Walks stepped in.

After a specialist visited Scooter, it was confirmed that the young pup was shot, “as they found pellets in his body,” Wags and Walks said. The organization added that Scooter “still has the bullets in his body” currently.

The bullets caused Scooter to become paralyzed, and Wags and Walks said, “It appears that he will likely never regain control of his back legs.”

Wags and Walks is currently “doing everything the doctors recommend to ensure [Scooter] is set up for a pain-free, happy life.”

The organization added that Scooter has “been healing and thriving in a loving foster home” but is currently looking for his forever home.

“With the help of his wheelchair (and a whole lot of determination and commitment from his foster), Scooter plays fetch, explores the world around him, and brings joy to everyone he meets,” Wags and Walks said of the canine. “He’s even regained some mobility through physical therapy and can now walk short distances on his own.”

“Despite everything he’s been through, he is full of love, and his will to live shines through,” the pet organization — which also has a location in Los Angeles — added of Scooter.
