Not all heroes carry swords; some carry squeaky toys and have four paws. If the world of Hyrule had its canine companions, these dog breeds would fit right in with their legendary charm, mystical vibes, and heroic personalities. They could easily be found trekking beside Link, chilling with the sages, or sleeping peacefully in a Kokiri village until destiny (or a sandwich) calls. Each of these breeds brings a unique trait—wisdom or an air of enchantment that makes you think, “Yeah, that dog could wear a tunic.”

Shiba Inu

Shiba Inus would 100% be wandering the open plains of Hyrule, probably leading Link to a hidden shrine or treasure chest with their sly grin and mysterious aura. These dogs are independent, clever, and just a little mischievous—exactly the kind of companion that knows more than they let on. With their fox-like appearance and confident demeanor, they could easily be the magical guide that only appears when you’re just about to give up. They’re cute, cryptic, and holding a side quest in their tail.

Border Collie

If Hyrule ever needs a new hero who can solve puzzles, herd Moblins, and find lost villagers all before breakfast, the Border Collie is your dog. With unmatched intelligence and agility, this breed would thrive alongside Link. Imagine one of these zipping through a Sheikah trial or flawlessly dodging fire traps like a game of fetch with fate. Loyal and focused, the Border Collie isn’t just along for the ride—they’re solving the dungeon before you even open the map.

Irish Wolfhound

Every fantasy world needs a noble giant, and the Irish Wolfhound would be Zelda’s resident gentle beast. Towering and regal, this breed could guard the gates of Hyrule Castle or be found lying in the fields of Hateno Village, radiating calm, ancient energy. Despite their imposing size, they’re loving and peaceful—a classic “don’t judge by the cover” character. Give them a glowing collar, and they could easily pass for a spirit guardian in wolf form.

Papillon

Don’t let the dainty size fool you—Papillons are fearless, flirty, and absolutely main-character material. With their butterfly ears and bouncy energy, they’d be that spunky magical companion showing up in a mid-boss fight with a clever plan. They’d flit around towns gathering gossip, pick up on hidden dialogue, and probably hold the key to unlocking the secret final boss. Bonus points: they could totally pull off floating with fairy wings.

Siberian Husky

Siberian Huskies are wild at heart, loyal to their pack, and built for epic journeys across snowy terrain—the ideal companion for Link’s Frostpeak adventures. With their piercing blue eyes and howling vocals, they bring serious “chosen beast” energy. These dogs wouldn’t just follow Link into battle; they’d race into it, dragging ancient sleds or helping scale impossible mountain paths. Plus, you know they’d look incredible in armor.

Tibetan Mastiff

The Tibetan Mastiff might as well have been designed for a Zelda dungeon boss—massive, majestic, and cloaked in mystery. This breed has guarded monasteries for centuries, and in Hyrule, it would likely be found sleeping outside a temple, waiting for a worthy adventurer. Their presence commands respect, and you know that brushing their fur would unlock a new side quest. Don’t be surprised if it speaks in riddles and demands three sacred treats before helping you.

Corgi

You didn’t think we’d leave out the Corgi, did you? These stubby-legged bundles of drama would be everywhere in Hyrule—barking at Deku Scrubs, rolling into treasure chests, and somehow finding ways into castle kitchens. Their royal roots make them ideal residents of Hyrule Castle, probably running the place behind the scenes. Despite their size, Corgis have massive personalities and endless bravery—perfect for comic relief and saving the day when no one expects it.

Samoyed

If any dog gets a magical glow-up and becomes a guardian spirit in a snowy Zelda realm, it’s the Samoyed. With their perpetually smiling faces and sparkling white coats, they’re practically born to be celestial beings. They’d guide Link through blizzards, warm the villagers with their fluff, and possibly be the reincarnation of a snow goddess. They’d also definitely distract every Bokoblin mid-battle with their cuteness, making them the ultimate secret weapon.

Basenji

With their ancient lineage and dignified, cat-like demeanor, the Basenji would absolutely be a mysterious forest guardian or secret shrine inhabitant. Known as the “barkless dog,” they rely on expressive yodels and eye contact to get their point across—aka peak NPC behavior. They’re agile, clever, and mysterious enough to make you question whether they’re just a dog or a cursed ancient hero waiting for someone to break the spell.

The Legend Of Bark-da: Fluff Of The Wild

If these legendary dogs had been in Zelda games, we probably would’ve tossed the Master Sword in a chest and picked up an enchanted squeaky toy instead. These breeds don’t just blend into Hyrule—they rule it, paws down. From sniffing out hidden Koroks to heroically chasing off Moblins with a bark and a bounce, they’d handle temples, trials, and tea breaks with equal flair. Link could’ve kicked back while these majestic pups took charge. When destiny calls, these dogs already have a tunic, a map, and probably a side quest.
