Police are continuing to investigate after a man and his beloved pet dog were tragically killed in a horror collision in Wythenshawe on Sunday (March 9).

A vehicle flipped over and struck the victim, aged in his 60s, and his dog, close to the junction of Greenwood Road and Hollyhedge Road. It's understood a car had hit a taxi before landing at the roadside and striking the pedestrian.

Emergency services were scrambled to the busy junction at around 5pm. A huge scene was put in place as emergency services descended on the incident. Police, paramedics and fire crews, along with incident response units, two air ambulances along, enhanced rescue units and advanced paramedics raced to the scene.

The pedestrian and the dog were both tragically pronounced dead at the scene, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. After his death, heartbreaking handwritten tributes and flowers were laid at the scene. One read: “Hope you rest in peace and enjoy those long doggy walks in the sky.”

A woman in her 40s who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving remains on police bail. There have been no further updates, with investigations into the fatal collision still ongoing.

A witness involved in the collision claimed the taxi she was in with her younger siblings was hit by a driver ‘head on' who sped up to their vehicle ‘on the wrong side of the road' before the car then flipped over and landed at the side of the road.

Speaking to the M.E.N earlier this week, Madison Burrows, 19, who was sat in the front passenger seat of the taxi involved with her family in the back said: “The taxi tried to swerve but he couldn't move as there was a car in the lane next to us. I realised no matter what, we were about to get hit.

“At first when I got out the car I saw the dog. It was my sister who then started screaming. I looked and saw the man at the side of the road.

“Seeing the man and his dog at the side of the road was one of the most traumatising things ever. Whenever I close my eyes I just keep seeing him. I'll never get the image out of my head.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to assist them with their investigations. It is believed the collision took place after the vehicle, a black car, collided with the taxi at the junction after travelling south on Greenwood Road.

A force spokesperson said: “If you have any dash cam footage, ring doorbell footage, or have any information that could help us with our enquiries, please contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 quoting log 2270 of 09/03/2025.

“If you would prefer to remain anonymous, information can be shared by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
