Today is National Pet Day, a day to recognize the special animals in our life who go for walks, play fetch, cuddle with us and give us nothing but unconditional love.
If you have a dog as a pet like I do, use today as the perfect excuse to give them a few extra treats. You can feel better about it when the treats are healthy and homemade.
Healthy and Homemade Dog Treats
Ethel “Snooky” Viveiros, owner of Snooky's Cookies in Tiverton, has been creating tasty treats for dogs (and humans) in her kitchen without the use of harmful ingredients.
“I started making cookies for humans and I developed it and kept working at it,” Viveiros said.
“As I would eat them, my original was raisins, chocolate chips and walnuts, and my dog would not leave me alone,” she said. “So used to break off the little pieces of oats for him and that's how I said I should make dog treats.”
There are no harsh chemicals in her treats; the number of ingredients is minimal and you can actually pronounce them.

Pup-Approved Treats
The dog-friendly delights come in their original flavor or peanut butter. They are made from whole grain oats, light brown sugar, pure vegetable oil, eggs and peanut butter, and your dog's tail will be wagging for more.
“I have so many people that order the dog cookies, and all (the dogs) have to do is see the bag or hear the bag open and they come running,” Viveiros said.

The dog cookies are sold in eight-ounce and 15-ounce bags. The wax-lined bag and reusable seal allow for the treats to stay fresh. Orders can be placed online.
