Nelson is a sweet young dog who came to us as a stray. He’s very affectionate once he gets to know you, although he can be shy and nervous at first. He loves walks and walks well on the leash, although he sometimes likes to pull because the world is too exciting to take it slow.

He’s been getting along with our shelter cats as well as other dogs, although we haven’t tried him with any larger-breed dogs yet. Nelson is still learning basic commands but is house trained: He’s very good about telling us when he wants to use the bathroom, although he will use potty pads if he has to. As a relatively young gentleman, Nelson has a full and active life ahead of him.

We have noticed that Nelson appears to have some hind-end stiffness that may need to be evaluated by a full-service vet in his forever home, especially if it gets worse.

Nelson is currently our office dog: Come by the shelter to say hi and meet him! You might want to choose a quieter time of day, such as later in the afternoon, so you’ll see his best side.

Nelson’s $100 adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, core vaccines, and current flea control.

Cory came to us with several of his friends when his owner was no longer able to care for them.

He is shy with new people at first, but our cat team say when he warms up, Cory is a very sweet, snuggly cat who rewards your attention with purring. He lives life on the calmer side and prefers lounging in the sun to playing. Cory gets along with other cats in the Kitty Cottage but may not want to share a home with a particularly active, playful cat or dog.

If you’re looking for a mellow companion, Cory might be your guy!

Cory’s $50 adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, core vaccines, and current flea control.

The shelter is open Wed through Sun from 12-5 or by appointment for adoptions, and we can be reached at 707-964-7729!

The Mendocino Coast Humane Society is at 19691 Summers Lane, Fort Bragg. You can reach them at 707-964-7729 or online at www.mendocinohumane.org.
