Adopting a pet is a great way to give a pet a new home after being left on their own, be it by a previous owner passing away or, in some cases, being dumped.

The Basildon Dogs Trust branch works hard to care for dogs in distress as well as find a loving family to give them a home if they need it.

If you think you would be able to rehome one of them, go to the group's website.

Things to Consider Before Adopting a Pet

You can also donate to help them carry on their rescue work.

Basildon Dogs Trust: 5 pets in search of forever homes

Here are five dogs who are looking for their new home.

Carrot

Gender – Male

Age – Four years old

Breed – Collie (Border)

If you want to adopt Carrot you can view their full profile here.

This friendly boy is looking for a family who can provide him with the physical and mental stimulation he needs.

He loves a treat and takes them nicely from your hand which is great for ongoing training and likes to play with toys and sniff around when exploring outside.

Carrot can live with dog-savvy children 14 and older and could live with another well-balanced dog (pending a successful dog mix here at the centre).

He can be left for up to four hours, although leaving hours will need to be built up slowly whilst settling into his new home.

Lily

Age – Five years old

Breed – Crossbreed

If you want to adopt Lily you can view their full profile here.

Lily loves her treats which will work as a great tool for all her ongoing training and a tasty reward for being a super smart girl.

Lily loves a Nyla bone, antler and wood chew to chew on and enjoys all toys in general but can get overly overstimulated.

She can live with older teens aged 16 and up and must be the only pet in the home with no visiting children.

She will need a private, secure garden and a quiet family home and will need to be on a lead and always muzzled when out and about.

Cheeka

Age – One year old

Breed – Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois)

If you want to adopt Cheeka you can view their full profile here.

This lovely girl takes treats nicely from your hand and cheese is definitely the way to her heart.

She loves carrying a ball around and likes to sniff all toys.

Cheeka can live with children 16 and older as she can be a bundle of energy and needs an active family and to be the only dog in the home.

Leaving hours will need to be built up very slowly with as she can be nervous left on her own.

Wimpy

Gender – Male

Age – Two years old

Breed – Shih Tzu

If you want to adopt Wimpy you can view their full profile here.

Wimpy is a little fluffball full of energy and loves exploring and sniffing around new environments.

Wimpy will never refuse a tasty treat so this is a great way to help with training and building a bond.

He will need all basic training and any alone time built up slowly and can live with children 11 and older.

Wimpy would benefit from having calm walking buddies to help build his confidence when out and about and will need regular grooming to maintain his coat.

Benny

BennyBenny (Image: Basildon Dogs Trust) Gender – Male

Age – Six years old

Breed – Chihuahua (Long Coat)

If you want to adopt Benny you can view their full profile here.

Benny is curious in new environments and likes to sniff and explore and loves a meaty treat which is great for ongoing training and cuddles.

He can be a little shy when first meeting people so any new adopters will need to be able to meet Benny multiple times at the centre before he goes home.

Benny will need a home where he is the only dog and can live with children 14 and older.

He can be left for up to 4 hours although any leaving hours will need to be built up very slowly once he has settled in his new surroundings.
