Just a reminder that we have moved into our new shelter. Our new address is 210 Cross Street in Presque Isle.
Even though it is taking time to settle in, there are still some important issues that we are working on. We are looking for someone who could possibly move several signs from the old building down to our new one. And we are hoping that the outside dog fencing will be able to be moved soon. Even though quite a bit of the fencing will need to be replaced, we hope to salvage as much as possible.
It’s no secret that owning a pet brings comfort, happiness and companionship to our everyday lives. We have written articles in the past that pets can help improve both our physical and mental health. And basically, pets can make our lives happier and healthier.
Our pets require our care and assistance every day. This can help us to get into a routine of healthy habits. Many dog owners are more inclined to walk, run, jog or hike on a weekly basis to keep their pet healthy and entertained. Spending more time outside of the house also increases our physical and mental health. Many pets will wake their owners up at the same time every morning, falling into a regular routine, and in turn, that gives us a reason to get up and start our day.
Besides providing awesome companionship for their owners, pets can also help create friendships and connections with other humans. Having a pet can make socializing so much easier, it’s a popular topic to talk to other pet owners.
People who walk their dog daily are also more likely to bump into other people walking, and it never fails to spark a fun conversation and connection that we can all relate to. In other words, animals can help create friendships and, in turn, reduce loneliness and social isolation.
One thing to consider: Pets love unconditionally and without any judgment. Knowing that our pets will be totally loyal to us and provide years of faithful companionship, regardless of life’s situations, will give us all a boost of self-esteem.
Playful interaction with a friendly animal for as little as five minutes will help our bodies to release serotonin and dopamine, two hormones that will relax our nervous system and help us to create a sense of calm in our bodies. It goes without saying that the more we smile and laugh while enjoying the company of a pet, the more these hormones are released. Pets can certainly help us all in this relaxation process of reducing our stress and finding some calm in our busy lives. That is the power of pets.
