The new location will open on Thursday, Jan. 2.
DAVENPORT, Iowa — Staff at King's Harvest Pet Rescue are finishing up the last of their preparations before making the move to a new facility.
The shelter's new home, located at 21110 Holden Dr. in Davenport, is expected to house twice as many dogs as cats as the current shelter. Shelter officials hope to open the doors to their new home on Thursday, Jan. 2. To help prepare for that move, officials are working to adopt out all of the 140 animals they currently have waiting for their forever homes. To help with this, adoption fees are being slashed in half.
“Rescues are in crisis mode right now. People have stopped adopting. They've stopped donating. Unfortunately, people aren't spaying and neutering, so the animal population is crazy. We're a no-kill shelter, so when we're full, we just can't take anymore,” Shelter Director Terri Gleize said.
The entire move cost King's Harvest approximately $1.2 million, according to shelter officials.
The shelter's current facility will close to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 25.
