Someone in a Facebook group recognized Leon and tagged another person, asking if this could be the one they had been searching for. Soon after, Patrice received a message. Attached were pictures of the dog as a puppy, and it was clear — this was the same dog.
Although the family never demanded Leon’s return, Patrice could sense how much they missed him. “I had to think about it because I was attached to the dog, and he was attached to me,” Patrice admitted. “But I put myself in their shoes. If I were the one looking for my dog, I’d hope someone would give me that chance. It would feel like a miracle.”
The family was kind and respectful, expressing gratitude that the dog had found someone who cared for him so deeply. Patrice knew what he had to do. “They were crying. They had tears in their eyes,” he said. “So that’s when I decided to do the right thing — not for me, but for the dog — to bring him back to where he belongs.”
