For over 10 years, Bailey, an affectionate and goofy boxer, has been more than a pet in the Whitman household.
After many difficult diagnoses led to a decision to put Bailey down, the Whitmans and their son spent the week doing everything Bailey loves, from trips to Hobby Lobby to eating her favorite ice cream."We've done everything that we can for her.
We just want to make sure she's happy and knows she's loved when she goes," said Samantha Whitman.
Samantha took to Facebook to share Bailey's story and ask if anyone would like to meet the boxer in her final days, as Bailey loves people and other dogs.
The request was seen by more than 300 people.
On Sunday afternoon, a community walk for Bailey was held at Stover's Dam, giving the dog one last chance to meet other pups and get some human snuggles before being laid to rest on Tuesday.
"Watching her decline and not love the things that she used to love and be the dog she used to be, it hurts and it's hard," said Samantha.
"But she's my best friend.
So, I've got to do right for my best friend." The Whitmans plan to make Bailey's walk an annual event to honor Bailey's life and help support local rescues and foster animals.
