A new case of dog poisoning has emerged in Yucatan after the death of seven dogs from eating contaminated food
in the town of Tekax”
.

“A new case of mass poisoning alerted the community, this time it was registered in the Yocchenkax neighborhood in Tekax, where seven dogs lost their lives after eating food contaminated with some type of poison. The events occurred in the early hours of this Monday, December 9th, when the neighbors of 45th Street (between 30th and 32nd). realized that their pets had died after eating food that had been intentionally given.

According to reports, around 1:00 a.m., residents of the area alerted the Municipal Police about the death of their dogs, which were victims of what appeared to be a deliberate poisoning. The victims were unable to identify the person responsible for this act, so agents began to collect testimonies and investigate the events.

Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene of the incident and cordoned off the area to preserve the evidence and allow the relevant investigations.

The street remained cordoned off awaiting the arrival of personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office and the Mobile Unit of the Forensic Veterinary Service, who will carry out the corresponding expert reports. This incident is the third of this type that has been recorded this year in this municipality.

The first case occurred in September in the San Ignacio community, where Karla Cabrera reported on social media the loss of her pet due to this cruel act. Likewise, in October in the Solidaridad neighborhood, a citizen reported that her 10 chickens, a duck, and four opossums died from eating poisoned food. It should be noted that animal abuse, including poisoning, is considered a crime under the Yucatan Penal Code.

Article 423 establishes that anyone who commits acts of unjustified cruelty against any animal species (which does not constitute a pest or represent a danger to human life) may be punished with a sentence of two to six years in prison and a fine of between 300 and 1,000 days’ salary.”
