An abandoned dog, who was on the verge of death, has made what can only be described as a miraculous recovery and is set to start a new life in a new home. Niall Harbison, a Thailand-based animal rescuer, recently shared the story of Mr. Big, who was hours or days away from a painful death when he was found two months ago.
‘He was being eaten alive’
Harbison, the founder of Happy Doggo, says his mission is to save millions of street dogs around the world. Mr. Big was dying alone in a toilet when they found him.
“Mr. Big had maggots in a wound in his ear. He was covered in about 500 blood-sucking ticks. He was massively anemic, had tick fever, and didn’t have much time left. He was being eaten alive. We thought he would lose an ear,” Harbison wrote.

Road to recovery
For Mr. Big and Harbison, the road to recovery was not an easy one, but their persistence paid off. Within a matter of weeks, Mr. Big started walking and then even running.
“The best news is we even managed to save his ear. Mr. Big was getting healthy again. The best part was seeing Mr. Big’s personality coming back. He is a massive goofball, softy, and gentle soul. He loves all the other dogs and he adores humans,” Harbison wrote.

Finding him a new home
With Mr. Big making a remarkable recovery, Harbison now faced a new challenge – to find him a new home.
“Because of his breed, Mr. Big cannot fly. It would have to be a home in Thailand. But it’s not easy to re-home a bigger dog like this with recent health issues,” Harbison said.

But as luck would have it, an American man and his Thai wife expressed their desire to adopt him.
How life changed in two months
“They drove 800 km to come and see him. Mr. Big went for a swim, ice cream, and for a walk. The good news… It was love at first sight,” he said.
Mr Big leaves tomorrow morning. His new name will be Henry which I think he suits beautifully.

The couple named Mr. Big Henry, and exactly two months after he was on the verge of death, the happy and healthy dog is starting a new life.
