ADM invests $33 million to grow pet food capacity in Mexico

GUADALAJARA, JALISCO — On Oct. 19, ADM cut the ribbon at the opening of its new pet food production line in Guadalajara. The company invested $33 million to establish the line, which will benefit its Ganador® and Minino® pet food brands and support new innovation for ADM’s pet nutrition portfolio.

The line will allow ADM to serve markets in Central America and Columbia, and will expand ADM’s manufacturing workforce in Guadalajara by 65%, according to the company.

ADM has had a presence in Mexico for more than 65 years. According to the company, Jalisco has been identified as a key growth market in Mexico based on increased economic activity and growing investments in the region.

“Without a doubt Guadalajara is a strategic, economic location for ADM in Mexico,” said Jorge Martínez, president of ADM’s pet nutrition business. “The integration of this new production line adds range and flexibility to our capabilities in Mexico and enables ADM to triple its capacity and give us wider international visibility within the pet food market.”

The line is equipped with new and automated technologies and adheres to NOM-036 practices, which is a Mexican regulation related to ergonomic risk factors in the workplace aimed at reducing worker risk when loading heavy parcels.

The plant will also adhere to ADM’s CSR initiatives by reusing water from a new treatment plant. The company is also giving back to the local community by donating 460 Primavera trees to be planted across Guadalajara, as well as partnering with the Food Bank of Mexico (BAMX) to provide 1,228 packages of food to 300 families living in the Tepatitlan de Morelos area.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Martínez, Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus, and Amy Scanlon, US consul general in Guadalajara.
