MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Governor Kay Ivey announced the passing of Alabama's First Dog, Missy Ivey, on Friday. Missy, a blended collie mix, was around 10 years old. Governor Ivey adopted her from the Montgomery Humane Shelter in January 2019, and the two were inseparable ever since.
“Missy was a great friend. After the best days and the hardest ones, it was always so good to return to the Governor’s Mansion and be greeted by Missy. She really made it feel like home, and I will miss her dearly,” said Governor Ivey. “Missy lived a great life. There is nothing quite like the love from our pets.”
Governor Ivey expressed gratitude to the staff at Montgomery Veterinary Associates for their care and comfort of Missy in her final days. She encouraged Alabama families to cherish their pets.
