The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory from January 1, 2025. The initiative aligns with the National Action Plan for Dog Mediated Rabies Elimination from India (NAPRE).
Owners will have 90 days to register their pets on the official website of the AMC at ahmedabadcity.gov.in. Ahmedabad will be the first city in the state to make the entire registration process online. The dog owners will be able to complete the pet registration process by paying the registration fee of Rs 200 per dog.
An official from the AMC said, “The city has approximately 50,000 to 55,000 pet dogs. While Ahmedabad has not reported a single case of rabies in the last five years, the authorities are committed to maintaining the city’s rabies-free status through this registration initiative.” AM
