Cats and dogs in San Joaquin County can now receive free or low-cost spay and neuter services at the Animal Protection League's new mobile clinic.
The non-profit celebrated its mobile clinic grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, March 27. Shortly after the grand opening, Animal Protection League (APL) was flooded with spay and neuter requests. Appointments are required for services.
“We were inundated with hundreds and hundreds of phone calls and emails,” said Jill Antonini, APL's director of development and community outreach. “We hope that community members have some patience with us and understand that we are doing our best.”
APL's first surgery is scheduled for April 10.
“The low-cost clinic will be available to everyone and the free services will be available to our community members most in need,” Antonini said.
A first for San Joaquin County
The mobile clinic has been a dream of the organization since APL was formed 35 years ago. It wasn't until recently that APL was able to fulfill that dream.
“There are quite a few (mobile clinics) throughout the country. Currently, this is just the first one that's home-based out of Stockton,” Antonini said. “There are low-cost clinics available but the opportunity to have free services is a first for San Joaquin County.”
