LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — “Right now, we have over 100 animals in our care,” Kaylea Campbell, the managing director for Southern Nevada Animal Rescue League, said. “The need continues to get greater as more and more people continue to breed. Regulations aren't followed with spay and neuter laws or micro-chip laws.”
Campbell said the nonprofit needs people who can open their homes to adopt or foster one of its many dogs or cats.
She said the organization is at a breaking point with adoptions being at an all-time low.
Currently, the group is paying to board 11 of its dogs, which she explained is quickly using up the limited funding the nonprofit has.
“That is where a lot of our funding goes because it's anywhere from $10 – $15 per day, per dog, so that does eat up a lot of the donations that we get.”
Campbell said boarding the 11 dogs is costing the group $1,500 each week.
She said a few weeks ago, the nonprofit had to put a pause on taking in new animals since its resources are stretched thin.
“The need is helping cover boarding costs, helping cover vaccines, we have to supply food for boarding, we supply food for all of our fosters, that is part commitment to our fosters is that we provide them with whatever they need.”
After the animal rescue posted on social media about its need for donations, she said many people pitched in to help, and the nonprofit was able to secure enough money to continue boarding its dogs.
The organization shared its gratitude for the donations but also said they are only enough to cover the boarding cost for the next 30 days.
Campbell said anyone interested in adopting or fostering any of its animals can fill out an application at www.snarllv.org.
