CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Another pet food brand has issued a recall for cat food due to possible contamination from bird flu.

In early March, Wild Coast LLC recalled batches of their raw cat food for possibly leading to bird flu in pets. On March 15, a second pet food company issued a similar recall also out of precaution for possible bird flu contamination.

Savage Pet announced a recall of two its products “because it has the potential to contain H5N1, also known as bird flu,” according to the recall on the FDA's website.

The specific products affected were:

  • Savage Cat Food Large Chicken Boxes (84 oz.), best by 11/15/2026
  • Savage Cat Food Small Chicken Boxes (21 oz.) best by 11/15/2026

The FDA warned customers who purchased the product to look out for symptoms of bird flu in their cats, like fever, lethargy, low appetite, inflamed eyes, discharge from the eyes or nose, difficulty breathing, tremors, stiff movements, seizures, or blindness. If your cats display any of these signs, contact a veterinarian immediately.

No human cases of bird flu have been reported from handling pet food, but customers should be wary nonetheless.

Customers who purchased the product are urged to immediately dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.
