Meet Apple, the SOS Shelter Pet of the Week. Her story is very much like so many others at the shelter. She was a stray running the road with nowhere to go. Thankfully she was picked up by animal control and taken to the pound.
Most people frown on the pounds, but these places are sometimes the only option due to the overwhelming numbers of strays in our area. The pound gave me a safe place to stay and food in my stomach. After my seven-day stay hold was up, my picture was posted. I had such sad eyes and cute little ears that they tugged on the heart of one of the staff at SOS Animal Shelter.
The next day SOS reached out to inquire about her. It was explained she was sweet, but very shy. Within a few hours SOS pulled up and busted her out of the pound. It took her several weeks to open up. She curled up into a tight little ball in the corner of the kennel. Workers would come in and sit with her, but she couldn’t make eye contact; she just wanted them to leave her alone.
This went on for several weeks with no improvement. After about two months she began warming up and realized that this wasn’t such a bad place and they weren’t going to hurt her.
Apple completed her vetting and now life is pretty good. She gets toys to play with daily, and her stomach doesn’t rumble like it did when she lived on the streets. She has actually made some friends here, and most importantly she got my smile back. She hopes my next move is with a family who will love and care for me like the staff here at SOS. If you are looking for a loyal companion, stop in and meet Apple.
She is two years old and full grown at 35 pounds. She's had several kennel mates in my short time at SOS and have done great with each of them. If you want more info, just stop in and ask to meet Apple, the kitty with a pretty smile and the cute ears
