PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – In this day and age, caring for your pet can come with a hefty price tag, especially when it comes to veterinary care. “It’s just not getting any cheaper. At the end of the day owning a pet is just not getting any cheaper,” said Douglas Patriquin, the CEO of Dr. Kelly’s Surgical Unit.
It’s a narrative dog owner Breeanna Sanchez is all too familiar with. Sanchez’s dog was diagnosed with Pyometra, a serious infection in unneutered dogs. While this infection can be life-threatening, the surgery can be costly. “They wanted to put her into surgery right away, but the cost was it was near $6,000,” Sanchez said. It wasn’t until she found Dr. Kelly’s that she could save thousands of dollars.
Founded by Patriquin and his wife, Dr. Kelly’s offers low-cost options for pet owners by only specializing in surgeries. This specialization prevents pet owners from paying unnecessary fees. For a wide variety of care, all clients have to do is make an appointment online, and then their pets are in and out in hours. From spay and neuter to dental cleaning and extractions to mass removals, the clinic offers many services. “Each doctor will do somewhere between 15 and 18 surgeries a day,” Patriquin said.
So far, Patriquin and his wife have opened up five locations across Arizona, with their Mesa location being the newest. The ultimate goal is to help provide pet owners with more resources and get them the care they need. “It takes a load off. It’s like a breath of fresh air because you know your dogs are going to get treated,” Sanchez said.
