Ark Naturals shares clinical research on dental chews

LAS VEGAS — Ark Naturals, a brand under Antelope, shared clinical trial research on its Protection+ Brushless Toothpaste Fortified Dental Chews, showing the chews’ effectiveness in promoting oral health in dogs.

The chews were sent to Summit Ridge Kennels in Pennsylvania to determine efficacy in reducing plaque, tartar, gingivitis and halitosis. The trial involved a control of 20 dogs that were fed a dry food diet and 20 dogs that were fed the same dry diet in addition to the recommended regimen of two Ark Naturals Protection+ Brushless Toothpaste Dental Chews daily.

According to the trial, dogs that consumed the dental chews were shown to have 15.2% less plaque and 78.4% less tartar build up compared to those in the control group.

Additionally, the clinical trial also showed that consuming Ark Naturals Protection+ chews positively impacted a dog’s oral microbiome. According to Ark Naturals, a balanced oral microbiome is key for helping maintain healthy gums and teeth, and helping mitigate infections, inflammation, gingivitis, tooth decay and bad breath.

“The data from this study demonstrates that regular consumption of Ark Naturals Protection+ was able to significantly shift the oral microbiome bacteria to a healthier state by promoting beneficial bacteria and decreasing disease-causing pathogenic bacteria,” explained Lindsey Wendt, DVM, chief veterinary officer at Antelope. “Taking proactive steps to keep a dog’s oral microbiome properly balanced can help avoid progressive periodontal disease that can lead to other significant health issues in other organs of the body.”

Protection+ Brushless Toothpaste Chews are a patent-pending, 5-in-1 preventative dental care solution that aim to improve canine oral health. The chews are formulated with astaxanthin, a natural, non-GMO antioxidant that has been proven to be more powerful than vitamin C.

“Astaxanthin is an incredible ingredient that will continue to grow in popularity as consumers become more familiar with its benefits,” said Wendy Wen, founder and chief executive officer of Antelope. “We look forward to developing more Antelope products with this powerful antioxidant.”

Antelope will showcase Ark Naturals Protection+ Brushless Chews, as well as results of the clinical research trial, at booth 3325 during SUPERZOO in August.

“At Antelope, we stay on the cutting edge of research and product development to provide the highest quality products for our pets, and this clinical trial further proves that mission,” Wen said. “We are thrilled to be able to share the powerful results with our partners and retailers at SuperZoo this year.”
