The top pet name for 2025 has been revealed, and comes with some surprises.
One name has officially taken the crown as Australia’s most popular pet name, and surprisingly the name has taken the top spot for both dogs and cats, according to new data from national pet insurer Petsy.
Luna has taken the lead as Australia’s top pet name for 2025, with other crossover favourites like Teddy, Charlie and Leo also making both the dog and cat names top 10 lists.

“Pet names say a lot about how Australians view their pets, they’re part of the family,” Founder of Petsy, Monica Limanto, said.
“We’re seeing strong trends towards short, playful, and affectionate names.”
Rounding out the top dog names were Coco, Charlie and Poppy, while Nala, Milo and Mochi followed Luna among top cat names.
Curiously, Teddy, Charlie and Leo made appearances in both top 10 lists, showing that when it comes to pet names, Australian pet owners can’t go past traditional, human-style choices that transcend species.
