Several pets died in a house fire Monday afternoon, according to a statement from the Battle Creek Fire Department.
Rescue crews were dispatched to the fire at 20 Everett Ave. about 3:20 p.m.
Smoke was visible from the second floor of the home upon arrival. Firefighters located and quickly extinguished the fire on the first floor and searched for any trapped occupants on the second floor.
The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, according to the fire department.
BCFD personnel, with the assistance of LifeCare, were able to resuscitate one of the family's dogs. No human injuries were reported. The number and species of pets that perished was not immediately available.
The fire department said the probable cause of the fire was “accidental/electrical.”
Property damage was estimated at $150,000, with another $80,000 in content damage.
