A British Shorthair from Bellevue wants your vote for America’s Favorite Pet. Votes for the cat also benefit the Lynnwood-based animal non-profit PAWS.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A viral British Shorthair from Bellevue is a frontrunner in America’s Favorite Pet Competition.

The kitten, named Egg, has already amassed a fanbase on social media after his owners posted a video of him on TikTok.

“We posted one video of him wearing a harness and just falling over and it literally went crazy viral overnight,” said Samantha Hogue.

The video has over five million likes

She and her partner, Denny Park, got Egg as a mutual one-year anniversary present.

“We wanted something that wouldn’t just go in a drawer and something we could love and watch grow,” said Park.

Egg now has over 200,000 followers on TikTok and 4,000 followers on Instagram. He’s also reached the quarterfinals of America’s Favorite Pet competition.

The competition is a popular online voting contest that supports animal rehabilitation and recovery nationwide. The most precious pups and cutest cats face-off for the chance to be crowned America’s favorite pet.

“Sometimes he can be a little scrambled, but he’ll soft-boil your heart and win you over, easy,” reads his bio on the competition’s website.

Since 2020 the America’s Favorite Pet competition has donated over $800,000 to the PAWS Foundation. PAWS is based in Lynnwood Washington and cares for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. For the last two years PAWS has been the nonprofit beneficiary of the “world’s largest online pet competition.”

Hundreds of pets across the country have been narrowed down to just the top 1% in each category.

“We entered him in American’s Favorite Pet Contest and if he wins he gets to be in Catster Magazine and wins $5,000 dollars,” said Hogue. Voting in the Quarter Finals ends on March 24th at 6 p.m. You can vote each day for free or pay for additional votes by way of a donation to PAWS.
