According to the Veterinary Cancer Society, one in four dogs will be diagnosed with cancer. When pets reach middle age and up, the disease becomes the leading cause of death.
Celsius Herbs, founded by renowned nanotech and bioscience expert Rakesh Katragadda, is on a mission to create everyday pet and skincare products that toss out the toxins and chemicals commonly found in products for natural alternatives to keep pets and people safe.
Cutting Out Chemicals Using Biotechnology
Year-round pet owners use product after product to treat and care for their pets, but an overwhelming majority of the market creates products through the lens of chemistry, using chemicals and intense preservatives. Celsius Herbs is introducing a new approach using biotechnology and leading with a holistic, health-first philosophy to set a new standard for pet and skin care products.
This mission is deeply personal for Rakesh, president and founder of Celsius Herbs.
“I lost my pet to cancer and wanted to create a brand that was focused on creating natural products without the human ingredients found in pet products today that cause severe side effects in pets,” says Rakesh. “With a nanoscience background, I realized that any product we use that has intense preservatives, our skin absorbs these chemicals. Hence, I wanted to create products that are truly nontoxic or natural products.”
Celsius Herbs follows a three-step process. First, they handpick organic and natural herbs suited to each product’s purpose. Next, they extract bio ions under carefully controlled conditions, like temperature and pressure. Finally, they use a biotechnology process to combine unique plant ions that remain stable without the need for heavy chemical preservatives, resulting in tailored, clean-label products.
“We use a unique technological approach towards crafting products rather than a chemistry approach,” says Rakesh. “We have come a long way in terms of biotechnology. Most of the products out there, I would say 99 percent, are created with a chemistry approach. But I was able to come up with a biotechnology approach, which completely changes the approach to making these products.”
The result is a range of cleaning agents under brand names including Petglow and Dermveda. Petglow products address issues including dog ear infection treatment, cat ear mites, fleas and ticks, itchy skin, and fungus for dogs and cats. Dermveda addresses skin care, hair care, hygiene, fungal skin issues, and viral conditions for humans.
The Future of Holistic Household Names
Celsius Herbs’ holistic approach was supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and recognized with the 2024 Centropolis Best Commercialization Award.
They use organic essential oils as natural germ-fighting agents, handpicked natural and organic herbs approved by the USDA, and guarantee their customers that their products are biodegradable. This makes them safe and sustainable for the environment.
As the company expands and continues to grow its product line nationally, it envisions reaching $10 million in sales within a few years. It also sees stocking more shelves with Petglow and Dermveda and becoming a household name among pet owners and people with skin sensitivities.
