Bret Michaels, meet Bret Michaels.
The Poison frontman recently adopted a dog that just happens to have an unusual name. His own.
“He’s got everything that says – I’m Bret Michaels A Husky and I’ve been adopted by Bret Michaels The Rockstar,” the singer posted on his Facebook page, along with photos of the husky.
Michaels learned about the dog when the Nebraska Humane Society posted on social media about how the dog was able to provide a blood transfusion to a month-old kitten that was suffering from “flea anemia.”
Shelter workers knew the husky would be a good fit as they had just done blood work on him a few days earlier. Thankfully, the transfusion appears to have worked as the kitten started to recover.
When Michaels heard the story, he decided to adopt the dog that bears his name.
“I could not have been more touched and more honored to adopt Bret Michaels the husky, knowing that he gave blood to save the life of a kitten,” Michaels said to People. “I could not work fast enough to adopt this husky and extend the awesome quality of little Bret Jr.’s life.”
The Nebraska Humane Society was thrilled by the news as well.
“We can’t wait to see how he thrives in his new home,” the group posted on its Facebook page. “We just hope it doesn’t get too confusing when someone tells Bret Michaels to fetch!”
Michaels’ told People that his family had lost their 14-year-old German shepherd Phoenix earlier this year.
“So this story brought a smile back into my family’s life,” he said. “I work diligently with my family and many people to save and improve the lives of many pets.”
Michaels recently performed at the Hollywood Casino in Grantville as part of his ongoing “Parti-Gras” tour.
