Many people are experiencing the issues of dog fouling in our streets, more than we have ever had before. It’s always difficult trying to get the human culprit to take responsibility for his/her little darling that merrily runs in front of him/her, sometimes its feels like 20 feet in front of the master or mistress.

So how are they to know, why they walk and look at their phones (like we all do) that there dear one has left a fresh present for the rest of us to walk in, whilst we are doing the same and looking at our phones too.
Children especially, are in danger, as they walk to school are in danger of picking up something from dog faeces that can blind them, simply by removing something from their shoes then accidently touching their eyes. It’s far more serious that people realise. The statistics are there for people to research.
The majority of us all love dogs, especially since lock-down many people have a beloved pet, and most are so responsible with their poo bags.
I get the old moan that the dog bins are full, may I say they do get cleared every day, but you will be amazed how many people I see carry their bags home, that’s what responsible people do, when they can’t ether find a bin or its full, NOT leave it beside the bin they actually take it home! Isn’t this amazing!
We have enough litter in our streets without the added unwanted dog gifts.
When I was young (not perfect by any means) you would never think of dropping litter on the floor, it belonged to me, therefore if I couldn’t find a bin, as there were not that many in the sixties, you stuffed it in your pocket and put in your metal dustbin when you got home.
Yet every day you see people throw rubbish from the car windows, sweets are eaten and once they get to the end of the packet the empty container or paper is just dropped, it seems such a bad crime to me and many people.
Come on, we can do this together, voluntary litter pickers are amazing but really it should be in all of us, our children and grandchildren to respect where they live. Spring is here, so let’s work together and clean up this old town of ours.
It has so much amazing history lets all start to care, and not be afraid to say, ‘is that litter you have just dropped?’ and ‘has your dog left something behind’ Before you start screaming at me, I hear you, ‘if we said that to someone, they would give us a mouthful or even worse.
I know I’m no hero either, but sometimes, you get so fed up you get a bit bolder, but really, we shouldn’t need to have ask anyone to pick up rubbish, it should be second nature. Maybe its learnt behaviour, but if we go back to the time when we had ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ it did work.
Sometimes it’s good to have a rant!
