You may have never been to the Louvre in Paris or Buckingham Palace in London, but a hamster has travelled to some of the world's exciting destinations, albeit posthumously.

Lisa Murray-Lang, the owner of the hamster, is travelling with her pet Spud's ashes preserved in a locket on a tour to all his favourite places in the world, the New York Post reported.

She carried its ashes for 15,000 miles, starting from Honolulu Hawaii, where she spread some of his ashes, spending almost $5,000 on the trip.

The beloved locket, carrying the hamster's ashes, has since visited many famous landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre in Paris, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and 10 Downing Street in London, before moving on to Amsterdam.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Lisa made Spud a miniature world with replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Hogwarts and Buckingham Palace among others.

She named the pet hamster after a character from the Irvine Welsh book “Trainspotting.”

Lisa, who also has four cats, said: “Spud loved the model of Buckingham Palace I made him. He used to stick his head over the top next to the flag and give a royal wave. And his first adventure was my cardboard model of an art gallery.”

“I put works of art all over the walls and he used to stop and look intently at all of them – so it was important to go to the Van Gogh museum and the Louvre.”
