Brittany Furlan Rescues Dog from Coyote in San Fernando Valley

A harrowing incident occurred at the San Fernando Valley home of rock musician Tommy Lee and his wife, comedian Brittany Furlan, when a coyote attempted to snatch their pet dog, Neena. The encounter, captured on security footage, unfolded in broad daylight outside the couple’s residence.

According to a video shared by Furlan, the attack happened near the pool area where the couple’s two dogs were located. She is seen chasing the coyote as it runs off with Neena, a 10-year-old long-haired English cream dachshund, in its jaws. Furlan bravely pursued the wild animal and managed to rescue Neena by climbing a wall.

“Thank God she’s a little bit fat because he couldn’t make it over the wall with her,” Furlan noted in a social media post. Tommy Lee, who was inside the house during the incident, rushed outside upon hearing Furlan’s screams, but Neena had already been saved by the time he arrived.

Furlan, well-known for her comedic career on social media, mentioned that this was the first time they had witnessed a coyote in their backyard. The coyote reportedly managed to jump over a 10-foot wall to reach the property. Furlan shared the footage with her large online following to raise awareness and underscore the potential dangers posed by coyotes to pets in the area.

In a statement on her platform, Furlan warned other pet owners in Los Angeles to remain vigilant, especially since she believes the coyotes are becoming more daring and desperate. “I’m not even letting the dogs out anymore. This is ridiculous. Hug your babies extra tight,” she advised.

According to wildlife authorities, coyotes are native to California and are often found in rural, residential, and urban environments. Officials recommend not feeding coyotes, keeping dogs on leashes, and never running away during an encounter. Instead, people should make themselves appear larger and make noise to frighten the coyotes away.

Furlan’s quick thinking and swift actions have likely minimized what could have been a tragic event. Her message serves as a stark reminder of the hazards that urban wildlife can present, encouraging the community to take precautions in protecting their pets.
