CHICO, Calif. — Animal lovers flocked to the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds Saturday for the Butte Humane Society's annual Woofstock Festival, which supports the projects and mission of the non-profit.
“The event is so critical to us for so many reasons but really it’s great to see how many people do want to come out and support Butte Humane Society,” said Executive Director Emily Acevedo.
The event serves as an opportunity for the community to come together, meet other pet owners, enjoy food, and more. Acevedo says the event is their biggest of the year, relying on donations and community support to help animals in need.
“We absolutely would not have been able to do everything that we’ve done over the last 10 years, continuing without the support of people in our communities,” Acevedo said.
Attendees included two and four-legged friends, one dressing up in a bunny suit with her two dogs to bring in the spring season.
“You’ll be saving a life if you can rescue a dog and they’ll be saving yours because they just bring so much joy,” said Jen Olson, Woofstock attendee.
Vendors from the community sold food, goods, and pet items such as leashes and clothes, while five different live bands took turns performing.
Bands in attendance included Soul Posse, Van Hagar, Whiskey River Band, One Up, and Second Hand Smoke.
“Really what it means for our cats and dogs that are housed in our shelter every day is you're helping them with their second chance and giving them a little bit of hope until they find their forever home,” concluded Acevedo.
