Think you have the most adorable dog in Canberra? Well, this is your chance to prove it – and it’s all in the name of charity.
Esteemed Australian phodographer and dog travel adventurer (yep, those are real jobs) Kerry Martin of Puppy Tales has recently packed up her camera to undertake an epic and charitable canine adventure across Australia, capturing the magic of our dogs in a gorgeous coffee table book.
And now she’s calling on the dogs of Canberra to strut their stuff in a gorgeous photography session in their homes.
Travelling with her husband Sam and their dogs Keiko and Summer to every state (and nearly every region) of Australia, from Thursday 5 until Tuesday 10 June, she’ll be stopping in Canberra to capture canine portraits for her book Dog Tales of Australia 2: Pawtraits.
But it’s not just about taking some cute photos – it’s also to raise money for Assistance Dogs Australia, a national non-profit that provides fully trained Assistance Dogs to people with mobility needs, autism or post-traumatic stress.
And as the only Australian winner in the 2024 International Pet Photography Awards (the world’s largest pet photography competition), you know your furry friend will be in good hands.
Following the completion of a 13-month, 56,400km caravan road trip around Australia – which culminated in the Dog Tales of Australia guidebook of dog-friendly destinations across the country – this isn’t Kerry’s first charitable adventure.
Previously raising funds to sponsor a Defence Community Dog, she says she’s super excited to be on the road again to photograph even more dogs.
“We’re revisiting cherished spots and exploring uncharted territories, capturing the essence of dogs around Australia in the colourful and diverse landscapes we travel through in this beautiful country,” she says.
“We know that your pets are part of the family, someone you share adventures with and cuddle on difficult (and good) days! They are the heart and soul by your side that you can’t imagine your life without.”
Participation in this project starts from $100, with $100 from each session photographed donated to Assistance Dogs Australia, along with a portion of artwork sales.
There are also very limited spots available, so you’ll have to get in fast to snag a space for your mini model in the making.
Not only will it be a fabulous (fur-bulous?) memory to keep forever, but it’s all for a good cause.
