Santa Barbara Humane is starting a Spanish and English bilingual Basic Manners dog-training class in Santa Maria.

The six-week course, beginning April 2, is designed for dogs four months and older, teaching essential skills such as sit, stay, polite leash walking, and not jumping on people.

With a focus on positive reinforcement techniques, the Basic Manners class is good for anyone looking to build a stronger bond with their dog while encouraging good behavior.

The first session will be an orientation without dogs, providing an overview of what to expect and how to get the most out of the training.

“At Santa Barbara Humane, we believe that every pet owner should have access to the resources they need to raise happy, well-behaved dogs,” said Dori Villalon, Santa Barbara Humane’s chief operating officer.

“By offering this course in both English and Spanish, we hope to reach even more members of our community and set dogs and their families up for a lifetime of success,” Villalon said.

Classes will be held at Santa Barbara Humane’s Santa Maria Dog Training Center, 1517 Stowell Center Plaza, Ste. B. Spaces are limited.
