The newly acquired facilities, located in Denver, Colorado, and Kansas City, Kansas, will enhance Cargill’s ability to produce and distribute animal nutrition products throughout the U.S.
The transaction, which closed on September 3, 2024, did not have its financial terms disclosed.
Mariano Berdegue, Senior Vice President for Cargill’s Animal Nutrition & Health Americas division, described the acquisition as a key addition to the company’s operations, stating that it would allow Cargill to support a broader customer base, from large-scale farmers and ranchers to local retailers specializing in pet food and equine products.
He noted that the expansion aligns with the company’s long-term goals in the sector.
The Denver mill, now integrated into Cargill’s network, brings over 35 employees and dedicated packing lines into the fold, enabling Cargill to cater to a diverse range of clients, including small-scale backyard farmers and pet owners.
Plans are underway to modernize the facility, positioning it as a flagship mill capable of meeting the demands of large agricultural operations in the region.
In Kansas City, Cargill’s newly acquired mill is situated near an existing Cargill feed facility, further solidifying the company’s presence as a major supplier in the area.
The acquisition allows for future growth in the region, particularly for customers involved in large-scale farming and ranching.
The investment follows Cargill’s strong performance in the international supply market, with the company reporting US$177 billion in revenue for the 2023 fiscal year, a 7% increase from the previous year.
Cargill employs over 160,000 people and operates in 70 countries, serving 125 markets globally.
Despite discontinuing quarterly and annual financial disclosures in 2020, the company continues to share year-end sales figures in its reports.
Additionally, Cargill highlighted significant initiatives in its recent fiscal year, including a US$30 million project with Nestlé and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to promote regenerative ranching practices.
