Carnation Festival registration open for Pet Show, Color Run

As the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival gets underway later this week, pay attention to deadlines for registration for some events.

Registration is open at carnationfestival.com for the 27th Carnation Festival Pet Show. The event will be 6 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Jaycees Shelter in Silver Park. Registration also is possible with a QR code on the festival’s Facebook page, or by visiting the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce office on East Main Street.

Categories for competition will be Best Looking Dog, Best Looking Cat, Best Looking “Other,” Best Looking Baby (pet ages 1 or younger) and Owner/Pet Look-Alike.

Registration by Aug. 5 will earn entrants a free goodie bag. Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers in each category.

Festival officials note that pets are not permitted in areas of Silver Park where food is being prepared or consumed. Service animals are the only exception. Contact Lauren.Marsh@coastalpet.com with questions.

Trail Run, Color Run registration open

The Color Run, for youngsters ages 5 to 18, will be 6 p.m. Aug. 6 on Iron Horse Trail, with the start near First Christian Church on 1141 W. Beech St.

The event is free, but registration is due by end of day on July 31 at Alliance YWCA.

The Trail Run, set for 6 p.m. Aug. 6 on Iron Horse Trail, also will have its start near First Christian Church.

The event is a 3.75-mile run or walk (6K). Sign-ins will be 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Aug. 6. Cost is $20 per person, and must be done by midnight Aug. 5. Registration can be found at carnationfestival.com, and comes with a shirt and post-race snacks.
