A cat has been killed and others injured following a spate of attacks in a Co Antrim town over a two day period.
Police said they have launched an investigation following the incidents in the Eden area of Carrickfergus.
Local vets have told officers that the injuries have been inflicted by humans.
Carrick Castle UUP Councillor Bethany Ferris has condemned the attacks on social media.
She said: “I cannot imagine what goes through anyone’s mind to hurt a defenceless animal who are treasured family pets.”
Police are appealing for information or witnesses to reported attacks on cats last week in the Eden area of Carrickfergus.
“A number of cats in the area have been severely beaten and one being killed in the span of two days,” Police Mid & East Antrim said.
“Local vets reportedly advised that these injuries had been inflicted by humans.
