A case was filed with a Dhaka court today over death of a cat on February 1 in the capital's Mohammadpur area.
Nafisa Naurin Chowdhury, on behalf of the Peoples for Animal Welfare, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaque against Akbar Hossain Shiblu, a resident of Muktijoddha Tower in Mohammadpur.
The case was lodged under Animal Welfare Act, 2019.
Upon the hearing, the magistrate recorded statement of the complainant and ordered officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station to submit a report after investigation into the matter.
In the case, Nafisa said Mansur, a resident of Mohammadpur's Muktijoddha Tower, informed that his pet cat went missing on February 1. Later he checked the close circuit camera where he saw Shiblu kicking his cat to death.
Earlier on May 10, 2018, another Dhaka court sentenced a man to six months' jail in another case filed under the Cruelty to Animals Act-1920 for burying two dogs and 14 puppies alive at Bagichartek in Rampura in 2017.
