Champaign fire displaces resident and claims two pets

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a single-family home on the 1600 block of Carolyn Drive on Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 4:22 p.m. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but were unable to prevent significant damage to the property.

The fire was reported by a neighbor who noticed heavy smoke and flames coming from the one-story residence. Upon arrival, fire crews found the occupant already outside the home. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines to control and extinguish the fire.

While the occupant was treated on the scene and transported to a local hospital for further care, no firefighter injuries were reported. Tragically, one dog and one cat perished in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as officials continue their work at the scene. The home sustained enough damage to leave the occupant displaced.
