A Charleston man was arrested May 16 on a charge of animal cruelty for allegedly killing the family pet English bulldog.
Christopher James York, 38, was held briefly in jail before he was released on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond.
Charleston Police were contacted by a third party May 13 who reported York had shot the family's pet. At the home, officers spoke with York's wife who said she was inside the home when she heard a loud pop.
York informed her “Your dog is dead; I just shot him,” according to the police report.
She went outside where she found the English bulldog dead with a fatal gunshot wound on the porch, according to a news release. She said her husband claimed to be allergic to the dog.
According to court and jail records in the area, York had no convictions for any weapon or violent crime.
