BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — On Friday, January 31, Chico Animal Shelter (CAS) announced they are waiving adoption fees to help find loving homes for animals in need at the shelter.
In a press release, CAS said the initiative runs from Saturday, February 1 – Friday, February 28 and aims to alleviate overcrowding at the shelter and give more animals a chance at finding their fur-ever home.
The waived fee includes; spay/neuter surgery, current vaccinations, Feline Leukemia Virus testing for cats or heartworm testing for dogs.
Additionally, the shelter said they offer free pet ID tags, and a one-year licensing fee for Chico residents, as well as microchipping services to help families reunite with lost pets more quickly.
CAS said with a rise in animal intakes over the past year, they encourage fostering as a meaningful way to support shelter pets. Foster volunteers provide temporary care, easing the burden on staff and giving animals a break from the shelter environment.
