Chopwell Close, Hardwick: Dog seized and child injured in ‘dog attack’

Officers were called to a home on Chopwell Close, in the Hardwick area of Stockton, on Easter Saturday (April 19) after a child was left with arm and head injuries following a reported dog attack.

Where did the incident happen?

A home on Chopwell Close, in the Hardwick area of Stockton.

When did the incident happen?

The incident happened at around 2pm on Saturday (April 19).

What happened?

Cleveland Police has confirmed that the child, who was not taken to hospital by ambulance crews but by others, suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the ‘attack'.

The dog has since been secured and removed from the home, and has been taken to specialist dog kennels by police. 

What has police said?

A full statement from Cleveland Police said: “Police were called to a property on Chopwell Close in Hardwick, Stockton this afternoon (Saturday, April 19) after it was reported that a child had been attacked by a dog.

“Officers attended the scene and secured the dog safely, without any harm to the animal, and removed it from the premises. The dog has been taken to specialist dog kennels.

“The child has been taken to hospital for treatment for arm and head injuries (not life threatening). Police remain at the scene of the incident whilst enquiries continue.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting 069181.

What have other emergency services said?

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a person injured in the Hardwick area of Stockton at 12.33pm this afternoon. No resources were required as the patient made their own way to hospital.” 

What did the scene look like? 

Pictures from the scene showed several police vehicles parked along the residential street, with officers spotted standing beside the front garden of a home just before 2pm. 

A crime scene investigator was also at the scene, while other specialist police officers were also spotted at the incident.
