Chula Vista Animal Services is making it easier for residents to find furry companions while also promoting mental health awareness. Throughout the month of May, the shelter is offering a special discounted adoption fee of $25 for all dogs, significantly lower than the usual $95 fee.
The decision to slash adoption fees comes amidst a pressing need to find homes for nearly 150 dogs currently residing at the City’s Animal Care Facility on 130 Beyer Way. Over the past few years, the facility has seen a surge in lost or abandoned animals, leading to an urgent situation.
Highlighting the therapeutic benefits of pet ownership, especially in relation to mental health,
Carolina Herrera, a spokesperson for the shelter, emphasized the positive impact dogs can have on their owners. “Dogs offer unconditional love and companionship. They can sense their owners’ moods and anxieties, providing comfort and support,” Herrera stated.
All dogs available for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, ensuring they are ready for their forever homes. The Chula Vista Animal Care Facility operates Tuesday through Saturday, with specific hours provided, and serves as the primary shelter for National City, Imperial Beach, and Lemon Grove as well.
Prospective adopters are encouraged to visit the Animal Services website to view profiles of
long-term residents in need of homes and to fill out adoption forms online.
By reducing adoption fees and promoting pet adoption during Mental Health Awareness
