An investigation is underway in the City of Cockburn after small pet was reportedly killed in a dog attack in Hamilton Hill.

The horror incident reportedly played out at Enright Reserve about three weeks ago.

An appeal for witnesses was posted to social media on December 18, asking people to identify which dog allegedly attacked a small chihuahua.

Witnesses commented on Facebook that it was a “sad event”.

City of Cockburn head of community safety and ranger services Michael Emery confirmed to PerthNow rangers were continuing to investigate.

“As a result of a dog attack, we understand that one dog died as a result of its injuries,” he said.

“This incident is currently under investigation and as a result the city cannot provide any further comment at this time.”

Enright Reserve is one of several large public open spaces in the City of Cockburn being trialled as off-leash areas for dog exercise when they are not being used for sport or by schools.

Others include Allendale Park, Aubin Grove Reserve, Beeliar Reserve, Colorado Park, Goodchild Reserve, Santich Park, Len Packham Reserve and Success Reserve.
