Cornwall dog walking challenge to support bereaved children

The event is organised by Penhaligon's Friends, a charity that provides support to over 1,000 bereaved children and their families in Cornwall each year.

The charity is encouraging dog owners and their pets to walk at least 30 kilometres during the month.

This distance is significant as Penhaligon's Friends celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Participants can sign up for the challenge online with a £10 donation, which creates a personal donation page to gather support from friends and family.

Those who register will receive a special Pooch Pack, which includes a Penhaligon's Friends dog bandana, treats for both dogs and humans and useful resources.

The challenge is sponsored by Penmellyn Veterinary Group, which has six practices across Cornwall.

Gina Togneri, clinical director at Penmellyn Veterinary Group, said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to support Penhaligon's Friends with this event on many levels.

“This charity is incredible in terms of both their work with young people and the support they provide bereaved families.

“We have first-hand experience of their amazing work through the assistance provided to some of our staff and their families during difficult times.

“We are also very aware of the positive impact that our pets have in supporting us through such tough times.

“Our support of Penhaligon's Friends and their dog walking challenge gives us a great opportunity to be involved with this fantastic cause.”

Jo Wollard, business manager at Penhaligon’s Friends, added: “Join our 30km dog walking challenge this May and combine enjoying some fresh air and exercise with your dog and supporting bereaved children and their families in Cornwall.

“We are so grateful for Penmellyn Veterinary Group's support.

“They have also donated a doggy hamper as a prize for a draw for all participants who raise over £100 during the event.”

To sign up for the event before it kicks off on Thursday, May 1, you can do so by visiting justgiving.com/campaign/30kminmay.
