An estimated 70 million homeless dogs and cats roam the streets of America on any given day, and sometimes it feels like they’re all located right here in Hot Spring County. Cuddle Babies Rescue, a local haven for neglected and abused animals, can certainly attest to that.
Cuddle Babies Rescue is a local nonprofit that is run by compassionate volunteers who provide animals in need with emergency care and shelter, medical treatment and lots of love, with the ultimate goal of finding these unwanted animals a ‘forever home’.
Volunteers, veterinarians and foster caregivers associated with Cuddle Babies Rescue give essential care, like bottle-feeding newborn pups, giving shots and setting IVs, nursing sick and starving animals back to health and sheltering animals until permanent homes can be found for them.
Cuddle Babies Rescue is currently housing and otherwise giving special treatment to close to 100 animals, and they gladly do everything they can. But no amount of love can provide for the needs that only money can buy, such as food and specialized vet care. That’s why they rely on the financial support of others in the community.
Sadly, the number of neglected and unwanted animals is on the rise daily, as evidenced by frequent Facebook postings showcasing a variety of strays and sad Mama dogs that have been abandoned with their broods in spots all around the county.
In addition, costs associated with caring for the pets people DO want have increased all across the board since 2020, with pet food prices, specifically, reported to have risen anywhere from 14 to over 50 percent in the intervening years.
Because of these issues and the ever-growing need, Cuddle Babies Rescue has established the ‘Mommy No More’ and the ‘Hungry No More’ campaigns to complement their normal fundraising efforts.
‘Mommy No More’ was created to help reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats in Hot Spring County by offering pet owners a way to get low-cost spay treatments by simply filling out an application. Assistance provided is dependent on the applicant’s income.
“The population of unwanted dogs and cats in our community is at an epidemic level…As a community, we must come together to fight this problem,” the organization shared on social media.
“We must act now. Somewhere in our area is a momma dog with puppies that are unwanted, and the owner is going to dump them on one of us or dump them in the woods to die a slow death,” as stated on social media. “A $1.00 donation is not too small. Please give what you can.”
‘Hungry No More’ is a program set to help owners who may be struggling financially by giving them support to ensure their animals get fed.
“Hungry No More will raise funds to buy dog and cat food for people in our community who need temporary help feeding their pets. We want to keep pets with their families,” the organization stated. “You can also donate pet food to be used directly.”
